Data Recovery & Hard Drive Repair in Port Townsend
Lost photos, documents, or important files? I can often recover data from crashed, corrupted, or failing hard drives. Same-week appointments, transparent pricing, and I'll be honest about what's possible.
Call now to describe what happened. I'll tell you if recovery is likely and what it will cost.
When to attempt recovery yourself vs. call a professional
Try yourself first: accidentally deleted files
If you deleted a file by mistake and haven't used the computer much since, check your Recycle Bin or Trash first. You can also try a free recovery tool like Recuva or PhotoRec — but stop if you're not sure what you're doing.
Call me: clicking, grinding, or beeping sounds
If your hard drive is making mechanical noises, do not keep trying to boot the computer. Every second it runs can cause more physical damage. Call me and I'll advise on next steps.
Call me: drive not recognized or won't boot
If your computer says "No boot device found" or your external drive doesn't show up, it could be a simple connection issue or a serious failure. I can diagnose and attempt recovery safely.
Call me: water or physical damage
If your computer got wet, dropped, or suffered other physical trauma, do not try to power it on. I can attempt data recovery from damaged drives, and if it's beyond what I can do locally, I'll recommend a trusted lab.
Data Recovery & Backup Services
Hard drive data recovery
I recover data from failing, crashed, or corrupted hard drives — both internal (SATA, NVMe) and external (USB). I use specialized tools to extract your photos, documents, music, and other important files.
SSD & flash drive recovery
SSDs and USB flash drives fail differently than hard drives. I can often recover data from them even when they're not recognized by your computer. The process is different — I'll explain your options.
Deleted file & partition recovery
Accidentally formatted your drive, deleted a partition, or emptied the Recycle Bin? Files are often still there — they just can't be seen. I use deep-scan tools to find and restore them.
Automatic backup setup
The best recovery is the one you never need. I set up automatic backups to an external drive or the cloud so you never lose another file. I test it to make sure it's actually working.
Hard drive replacement & cloning
If your drive is failing but still readable enough, I clone it to a new drive before it dies completely. If it's already dead, I attempt recovery first and then install and migrate to a new drive.
How the data recovery process works
1. You call and describe what happened
Tell me what happened in your own words. Did your computer stop working? Make a noise? Did you delete something by accident? Did water get spilled? This helps me gauge the situation and tell you what to expect.
2. I diagnose the drive (no charge)
I connect your drive to my diagnostic tools and assess what we're dealing with. I'll tell you if recovery is likely, what files I can probably get back, and exactly what it will cost. There's no charge for the diagnosis.
3. We agree on the plan and price
Before I do any recovery work, you approve the price. I'm transparent about what's recoverable and what may not be. You never pay for work you didn't authorize.
4. I recover your data
I use professional recovery tools to extract your files. For simple recoveries, this can be done in a session. For complex cases, I may need to keep the drive and work on it over a day or two.
5. I return your data and recommend next steps
Your recovered files go onto a new drive or cloud storage. I also recommend a backup solution so you're not in this position again. You leave with your data safe and a plan to keep it that way.
Ready to recover your data? Call me and I'll walk you through the process.
